LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jul, 2025) Punjab Minister for Agriculture Ashiq Hussain Kirmani has said that agricultural development and farmer prosperity are among the foremost priorities of the Punjab Chief Minister.
The present government was implementing revolutionary programmes aimed at uplifting the agriculture sector and which had already started yielding positive outcomes across the province, said a press release issued here on Sunday.
However, some elements were attempting to distort the facts and spread misconceptions regarding these historic initiatives of the Punjab government, he added.
Minister Kirmani said that Maryam Nawaz after assuming the office of Punjab CM, had initiated multiple agricultural development programmes worth Rs 400 billion for strengthening farmers and agriculture sector.
These programmes included interest-free loans worth of billions of rupees through Kisan Card, provision of thousands of tractors on subsidy under the Green Tractors Programme and provision of modern agricultural machinery with up to 60% subsidy and many other initiatives.
He said that fertilizer was available in abundance in the market at prices even lower than those fixed by the manufacturers.
Artificial shortages, profiteering and hoarding of fertilizers had been completely eradicated from the province.
He clarified that, during the current season, all provincial governments ceased official wheat procurement under the IMF agreement.
However, Punjab remained the only province that extended direct financial support of Rs 14 billion to small wheat farmers, he added.
In a short period of two months, more than
Rs 85 billion interest-free loans had been disbursed to farmers across Punjab for the purchase of fertilizers, seeds and pesticides for Kharif crops and out of this amount, farmers had already utilized over Rs 45 billion for the purchase of fertilizers, pesticides and diesel.
He further said that Punjab government was currently preparing a comprehensive plan to reduce the cost of wheat production to ensure that the next wheat crop becomes more profitable for farmers.
