
Tourist Couple From Karachi Arrested In Changla Gali For Circulating Fake Currency

ABBOTTABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jul, 2025) Abbottabad Police arrested a tourist couple from Karachi for allegedly circulating counterfeit Currency in the scenic area of Changla Gali. Fake currency notes amounting to Rs. 136,000 were recovered from their possession.
The operation was carried out on the directives of District Police Officer (DPO) Abbottabad, Umar Tufail, as part of an ongoing crackdown against criminal elements in the region.
According to police sources, SHO Changla Gali, Zubair Khan, led the swift action after receiving multiple complaints from local shopkeepers who had been duped with fake currency during sales transactions. The arrested suspects, identified as Abrar son of Shoukat Ali and his wife, had traveled to Changla Gali from Karachi for tourism purposes but allegedly used counterfeit currency while shopping in the area.
Responding promptly, police apprehended the couple and seized fake notes worth Rs. 136,000. A case has been registered against them under Sections 489B and 489C of the Pakistan Penal Code. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the counterfeit currency and whether the suspects are linked to a larger network.
The incident has raised concerns among local traders and tourists alike. Police have assured strict surveillance and legal action to prevent such activities in the future and maintain law and order in the tourist hub.
