Pakistani nationals can apply for a UK standard visitor visa for study (short term), tourism, business, and other permissible activities under this visa. The standard visitor visa allows the applicant to stay in the UK for up to six months. However, you can request to extend your stay under certain circumstances. You can apply for the UK standard visitor visa three months before your travel date.

Permissible Activities under UK Standard Visitor Visa

You can do the following activities in the UK if you visit the country under a standard visitor visa.

  • Tourism, vacation, or holiday
  • Meet your family or friends
  • Volunteer with a registered charity for up to 30 days
  • Pass through the UK to another country
  • Perform business activities, attend meetings, or interview
  • Attend a paid engagement or event as a professional expert, to give lectures, etc.
  • Take part in a school exchange program
  • Do a recreational course of up to 30 days, i.e., a dance course
  • Take an exam, placement, or study
  • As a dentist, senior doctor, or academic
  • For medical purposes

Prohibited Activities under UK Standard Visitor Visa

You cannot do the following activities in the UK if you visit the country under a standard visitor visa.

  • You can do paid engagement or event but you cannot do any paid or unpaid work for a UK-based company or as a self-employed person
  • Claim public fund benefits
  • Live in the UK for a long period via frequent or successive visits
  • Register a civil partnership or marry, or give notice of a civil partnership or marriage, you can do so under a marriage visitor visa

Eligibility Requirement for UK Standard Visitor Visa

An applicant must fulfill the following criteria for a UK standard visitor visa.

  • Passport or any other travel document with validity covering your stay duration
  • Proof of exiting the UK after your visit
  • Proof of financial support during your stay for yourself and your dependents
  • Proof of return travel and onward journey finances

UK Standard Visitor Visa Fee

The UK standard visitor visa fee is 115 pounds and allows you to stay in the country for six months. On the other hand, the standard visitor visa for medical purposes costs 200 pounds with 11 months of stay duration, and the standard visitor visa for academics costs the same and allows 12 months of stay duration.

Apply UK Standard Visit Visa Online

You can apply for the UK standard visit visa online and save the application form if you want to complete it later. Sign in again and resume from where you left it. Each family member traveling with you must complete the form and attend the appointment at the visa application center separately. However, you can fill out the form for your partner and children.

UK Long-Term Standard Visitor Visa

Pakistani nationals can apply for a long-term UK standard visitor visa for two, five, or ten years. It is suitable for people who frequently travel to the UK. This visa allows you to stay in the country for up to six months during each visit. However, the visa approval duration you get may vary if you do not meet the eligibility requirements for the duration you apply. There will be no visa fee refund if you are entitled to a visa for a shorter duration.

A long-term UK visitor visa for a minor will be valid for up to six months after turning 18. Also, the visa can be canceled if you repeatedly extend your stay in the UK.

Information Requirement for UK Standard Visitor Visa

An applicant must provide the following information and documents for a UK standard visitor visa.

  • Passport or any other travel document with validity covering your visa duration. A blank page on the passport for a visa is compulsory.
  • Tentative traveling dates to the UK
  • The place to stay in the UK
  • The estimated cost of your trip to the UK
  • Your current address and the time you are living in that location

Requirements of Visa Appointment

You need to book an appointment and appear for the interview at the visa application center. You may need to present the following documents at the interview.

  • Proof of your identity with a passport or any other travel document
  • Biometric information, photographs, and fingerprints
  • Prove your eligibility for a standard visitor visa with the required documents

The visa application center may keep the documents to process your visa application after the interview. You will get the decision on your visa application within three weeks of providing documents and proving your identity in the interview. The visa application decision will be sent to you via email or letter explaining the next step to take for your visa application.

You can request visa application cancellation anytime. However, you will only get a refund if the application is not processed.

UK Long-Term Standard Visitor Visa Fee

The UK long-term standard visitor visa allows you to stay in the UK for a maximum of six months during each visit in all categories. The two-year UK long-term standard visitor visa costs 432 pounds, the five-year UK long-term standard visitor visa costs 771 pounds, and the 10-year UK long-term standard visitor visa costs 963 pounds.

The long-term standard visitor visa fee is 115 pounds and allows you to stay in the country for six months. On the other hand, the standard visitor visa for medical purposes costs 200 pounds with 11 months of stay duration, and the standard visitor visa for academics costs the same and allows 12 months of stay duration.

UK Short-Term Study Visa

Pakistani citizens can apply for a UK short-term study visa to study the English language. It allows you to learn the English language in courses of more than six months up to 11 months long. You can stay in the UK for 30 extra days from your course's length. However, you cannot remain in the UK for more than 11 months on this visa.

UK Short-Term Study Visa Fee

The UK short-term study visa costs 200 pounds. Furthermore, the applicant also pays 776 pounds as the healthcare surcharge that lets the applicant use the National Health Service in the UK.

Prohibited Activities under UK Short-Term Study Visa

You cannot do the following activities in the UK if you visit the country under a short-term study visa.

  • Change your course or study any other course
  • Study in a state-funded school

Eligibility Requirement for UK Short-Term Study Visa

An applicant must fulfill the following criteria for a UK short-term study visa.

  • The applicant must be 16 years old to apply for the UK short-term study visa
  • Your application for an English language course of more than six months and up to 11 months in an accredited institute is accepted and contains no other subjects
  • The applicant can financially support themselves without working or taking help from public funds, friends, relatives

UK Student Visa

Pakistani residents of 16 years or older can apply for a UK student visa to study in the UK if they fulfill the following criteria.

  • When a licensed student sponsor offers a place on a course
  • The student has enough money to support themselves during the course
  • The student can speak, write, read, and understand English language
  • Evidence of consent from parents if the student is 16 or 17

UK Student Visa Application Timeline

The student can apply for a UK student visa six months before the start of the course when not in the country. The decision on the visa will be made within three weeks. On the other hand, the student already in the UK can apply for a UK student visa three months before the start of the course. However, the student must apply for a UK student visa before the expiry of the current visa and the new course should start within 28 days of the current visa expiry date. The decision on the visa will be made within eight weeks.

UK Student Visa Stay Duration

The UK student visa duration depends on your course's length and previous studies in the UK. You can stay in the UK for up to five years if you are above 18 and doing a course at the degree level. On the other hand, you can stay in the UK for up to two years if your course is below degree level.

To stay longer in the UK you can extend your visa if you are eligible, switch to a student visa from any other visa if you are already in the UK, or switch to a graduate visa to stay in the UK for an extended period of two years after completing the course. You can arrive in the UK before your course begins, however, the timeline varies with the course's length. You can arrive in the UK one week before the course beginning date if the course is six months or less and one month before the course beginning date if the course is more than six months duration.

UK Student Visa Fee

The UK student visa costs 49 pounds if you apply for the visa outside the UK or extend or switch to a student visa from inside the UK. The student also pays the health surcharge with the visa application. However, the exact amount of health surcharges varies with the visa duration.

Besides, the UK visa applicant must have enough money to pay the academic fee for one year. Your payment depends on the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). However, there is no need to prove having this money if you are already in the UK for a minimum of 12 months with a valid visa.

The applicant must prove possessing enough money to support themselves during the stay unless they are in the UK for a minimum of 12 months on the date of application. The applicant needs 1334 pounds per month for courses in London and 1023 pounds per month for courses outside London.

Permissible Activities under UK Student Visa

Courses To Do in UK Student Visa

The UK student visa applicant must have an unconditional offer of course placement from a licensed student sponsor. It is proved by a reference number known as the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). The sponsor will send your CAS when offering you a place in the course. The CAS is a must to apply for a UK Student visa. The applicant must apply for the visa within six months of receiving the CAS. You can do the following courses after getting CAS under the UK student visa.

  • A full-time course with qualifications below the degree level with a minimum of 15 hours weekly daytime studies
  • A full-time course with qualifications of the degree level or above
  • A full-time course at degree level or above that is equivalent to the UK higher education course and is delivered as a part of a long course overseas
  • A part-time course with qualifications above degree level
  • Recognized foundation program for postgraduate doctors or dentists
  • A Level B2 or above English language course in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Knowledge of English in UK Student Visa

The UK student visa applicants must prove their English language knowledge while applying for the visa. They can do so by passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT), having a GCSE, 4 or 5-level Scottish National Qualification, A level, Scottish Higher or advanced Higher English, or studying in a UK school before they turn 18.

The applicant must prove their English reading, writing, speaking, and understanding to a certain level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale. If you are taking admission in a below degree level course then CEFR Level B1 is enough. However, you will need a CEFR Level B2 or equivalent for admission to a degree level or above course.

The applicant does not need to prove their English language knowledge if they are coming to the UK as part of a university degree course in the USA or have already proven their English language knowledge in any previous visa application.

Documents Required for UK Student Visa

The UK student visa applicant must provide the following documents.

  • Current passport or any other travel document
  • The Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from the course provider
  • Proof of having enough money to support yourself during the course
  • Valid ATAS certificate if required
  • Consent proof of parents or legal guardian for the applicants under 18
  • Relationship proof with the parent or guardian for applicants under 18
  • Tuberculosis (TB) test resutlt
  • Consent proof from the financial sponsor if the applicant has received sponsorship for course fees and living costs of a minimum of 12 months
  • Additional documents if required
  • A blank page of the passport for the visa if you need to provide biometric information at the visa application center.

For Applicants under 18

Provide written consent from both parents or legal guardians for visa application, living and care arrangements in the UK, travel to the UK, and a copy of your birth certificate showing your parents' names.

Decision on UK Student Visa

You will get the decision on your UK student visa application within three weeks or faster if every requirement is complete. However, you may be asked for supporting documents and to attend the interview if the application is complex. This scenario takes some additional time.

The applicant can contact UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) if they want to make some changes to the application after sending it. The applicant can also withdraw the application by contacting UKVI and will get a refund if the visa processing is not started. Furthermore, the applicant obtains a biometric residence permit or a digital immigration status if the visa application is successful.

Partner and Children in UK Student Visa

The partner and dependant children of the UK Student Visa applicant can also apply for the UK visa or stay longer in the UK if the UK student visa holder is any of the following:

  • A government-sponsored student enrolled in a six-month or longer course
  • A full-time student studying a postgraduate-level course of nine months or more
  • The post-graduate level course must be a PhD, other doctorate, or a research-based higher degree if starts on or after 1st January 2024.

The dependant partner can be the UK student visa holder's husband, wife, civil partner, or unmarried partner and the dependant child must be under 18, including children born in the UK during the stay. However, the UK student visa holder has to prove the relationship with the marriage or civil partnership certificate for the partner and the birth certificate for the child.

The UK student visa holder must prove the child is not married and in a civil partnership and lives with you. The partner or child wanting to stay in the UK must have money available to them to support their stay in the UK. It is the additional money that the UK student visa holder needs to stay in the UK. However, the amount the dependents need to support their stay depends on where the UK student visa holder resides. It is 845 pounds per month for courses in London for a course length of up to nine months and 680 pounds per month for courses outside London for a course length of up to nine months.

If the UK student visa applicant applies with their dependants they must prove both have the money to pay for the course and support themselves during the stay. The applicant must have this money available for a consecutive 28 days and this period must be within 31 days of the date of visa application. However, you must provide any financial sponsorship or loan proof with the money to support your dependants if the loan or sponsorship does not cover them.

On the other hand, the UK student visa holder's dependents do not need to prove the possession of money to support their stay if they are in the UK with a valid visa for a minimum of 12 months. The dependants' visa validity ends on the same day as the UK student visa holder's visa validity.

UK Student Visa Extension

The UK student visa holder can extend the visa to stay longer in the UK to continue the same course or start a new course. The student visa holder must fulfill the following conditions to apply for the visa extension.

  • A student visa holder must be in the UK or hold a Tier 4 student visa
  • Has an unconditional offer of a place in the course by a licensed student sponsor
  • Shows that the studies are done at a higher academic level than the current course

The student must prove the finances to support themselves in the UK if in the UK for less than 12 months. The dependants of the UK student visa holder will separately apply for the visa extension, either at the same time or any time before their visa expiration. The student must also show that the new course will be at a higher academic level than the current course.

You can apply for a UK student visa extension at least three months before starting a new course and before the expiry of the current visa. Furthermore, the new course must begin within 28 days of the visa expiry date. However, you can stay in the UK until you get your visa decision or visa review decision if it was previously refused.

The UK student visa extension costs 490 pounds, the health surcharge, and you must provide the biometric information. You will get the visa decision within eight weeks of applying. You will get a biometric resident permit or a digital immigration status if your application is successful.

Child Student Visa

Pakistani nationals of four to 17 years of age can apply for a UK child student visa to study in an independent school in the country. However, the applicant must fulfill the following criteria.

  • An unconditional offer of a place in a course at an independent school
  • Enough money to support the stay in the UK and pay for the course
  • Consent of parents or guardians to study in the UK

The applicant can apply for a UK child student visa from outside the UK six months before the course begins. The decision on the visa will be made within three weeks. On the other hand, the applicant can apply three months before the course starts if already in the UK and before the expiry of the current visa. The course must begin within 28 days of the current visa expiry date. The applicant can get the decision on the UK child student visa within eight weeks.

The applicant under 16 can stay in the UK for up to six years of course length and four months afterward. On the other hand, the applicant of 16 or 17 years of age can stay up to three years of course length and four months afterward. However, they can travel to the UK one month before the course start date.

UK Child Student Visa Fee

The UK child student visa costs 490 pounds for an applicant outside the UK and costs the same amount if the applicant extends or switches to the UK child student visa from inside the UK. Furthermore, the applicant also pays the healthcare surcharge depending on the visa length and must have enough money to pay the course fee and support themselves during their stay in the UK.

Courses To Do in UK Child Student Visa

The UK child student visa applicant must have an unconditional offer of course placement from a licensed child student sponsor. The CAS is a must to apply for a UK child student visa. It covers both pre-sessional and main courses of study. The applicant must apply for the visa within six months of receiving the CAS.

Documents Required for UK Child Student Visa

The UK child student visa applicant must provide the following documents.

  • Current passport or any other travel document
  • The Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from the course provider
  • Consent proof of parents or legal guardian to study in the UK including consent to your visa application, living arrangements, travel to the UK
  • Proof of having enough money to support yourself and pay for the course
  • Relationship proof with the parent or guardian
  • Qualification evidence you used to get a place in a course
  • Tuberculosis (TB) test result
  • Consent proof from the financial sponsor if the applicant has received sponsorship for course fees and living costs of a minimum of 12 months

UK Child Student Visa Extension

The UK child student visa holder can extend the visa to stay longer in the UK if possessing a Tier 4 child student visa. The child student visa holder must have an unconditional offer of a place in the course by a licensed child student sponsor.

The student must prove the finances to support themselves in the UK if in the UK for less than 12 months. You can apply for a UK child student visa extension at least three months before starting a new course and before the expiry of the current visa. Also, you must apply within six months of getting the CAS. Furthermore, the new course must start within 28 days of the visa expiry date. However, you can stay in the UK until you get your visa decision or visa review decision if it was previously refused.

The UK child student visa extension costs 490 pounds, the health surcharge, and you must provide the biometric information. Direct Airside Transit Visa

A Pakistani resident needs a UK direct airside transit visa under the following conditions:

  • Changing flights in the UK while going to any other country
  • Do not need to go through UK border control

  • Home Office travel document

A Pakistani resident needs a UK visitor in transit visa under the following conditions:

Family Visa

A Pakistani resident needs a family visa to live in the UK with the family for more than six months. You can apply for the family visa to live with your spouse or partner, fiance or proposed civil partner, child, parent, or relative providing you with long-term care.

UK Family Visa Fee

The family visa fee to join a partner, parent, or child is 1846 pounds while applying from outside the UK and 1048 pounds while applying from inside the UK. The cost to add a dependent to your application is 1846 pounds per dependent while applying from outside the UK and 1048 pounds per dependent while applying from inside the UK.
