GIlGIT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jul, 2025) Torrential rains in Gilgit-Baltistan have caused devastating flash floods along the Thak-Babusar Road, leading to widespread destruction. According to Government Spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, more than eight vehicles carrying tourists were swept away by the floodwater, resulting in the death of three tourists and injuries to four others, who have been shifted to a nearby hospital.
One of the injured is reported to be in critical condition, while over 15 tourists are still missing. Faraq stated that some of the deceased have been identified, with their origins traced back to Lodhran.
The Babusar Road has been blocked at multiple points, and the floods have damaged roads, farmlands, and other infrastructure. Communication lines have been severely disrupted due to fiber optic cable breakage, cutting off contact with many homes.
Thousands of tourists remain stranded in the affected regions.
Government and district administration have launched extensive rescue operations, and dozens of tourists have already been moved to safer locations. Local residents have also stepped forward to shelter the affected tourists.
Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan has instructed authorities to expedite the rescue efforts and utilize all available resources.
The spokesperson also reported that flash floods have struck other areas of Baltistan, leading to partial closure of the Baltistan Highway as well.
Relief efforts are ongoing, and search operations for the missing individuals have been intensified.
