
PDMA Issues Warning For GLOFs And Flash Floods In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

ABBOTTABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jul, 2025) The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Thursday has issued an alert regarding the increased risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) and flash floods in the province’s mountainous regions due to ongoing weather conditions.
According to the details, the PDMA has specifically identified Upper and Lower Chitral,Upper Dir, Swat, and Upper Kohistan as highly vulnerable areas where snow-covered peaks and glacial lakes pose a serious threat.
In response, the PDMA has directed all concerned Deputy Commissioners to implement precautionary measures on an urgent basis to safeguard human lives, livestock, agricultural lands and infrastructure.
The authority has emphasized the need for strict monitoring of glaciers and glacial lakes in sensitive areas and has called for improved coordination between relevant departments.
Local populations in at-risk zones are also to be kept informed and educated about potential dangers and safety protocols.
Authorities are on high alert as efforts continue to minimize potential losses from these climate-related threats.
