
Sharjeel Vows To Celebrate The Independence Day 2025 With Renewed Zeal Across Sindh

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Jul, 2025) To celebrate the 79th Independence Day of Pakistan with a renewed zeal and an unified spirit of Ma’arka e Haq, the Sindh government has geared up preparation for organizing various events across the province on August 14, 2025.
Province-wide Independence Day events would commence from August 1 and will continue until August 15, “or maybe the entire month of August” with a focus on the Operation Banyanum Marsoos, Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon announced.
He was chairing a high-level meeting to ensure a magnificent, unique and memorable Independence Day celebrations across the province by organizing events on a focused yet extensive scale in a centralized and distinctive manner, said a statement issued here.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, proposing to hold the main event at the Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum in Karachi, suggested that the national flags should be hoisted on government vehicles, public transport, and prominent public places, and a continuous tree plantation campaign should be launched.
Minister for Energy, Development and Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah emphasized that the Independence Day celebrations should be dignified and impactful to further promote the spirit of national unity and patriotism among the people, adding “Achievements made under Banyan Marsus are a shining example of the protection and development of the beloved homeland and must be prominently highlighted before the public.”
Shah stressed that full public participation should be ensured in the celebrations, and the younger generation must be educated about national history and the sacrifices made for the country. He suggested organizing special programs, cultural exhibitions, seminars, and torch relays as part of the national festivities. The celebrations, he said, should be rich and impactful, with a strong focus on highlighting the sacrifices made during Banyan Marsoos.
Minister for Labor and Local Government Saeed Ghani, emphasized on taking potential monsoon downpour and the observance of Chehlum into account while planning the celebrations and suggested that messages from national heroes and prominent personalities be shared with the public, blood donation camps be organized, and a uniform dress code be implemented across all educational institutions.
Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs and Agriculture Muhammad Bakhsh Mehar announced that there would be two-day sporting competitions, such as cricket, hockey, badminton, volleyball, taekwondo, and local sports like Kodi Kodi and Malakhara while dispatch of video messages would begin from today.
The Sports department will organize a marathon in Karachi on August 10, whereas a cycle race and a donkey cart race would be organized on August 14. The cart race starting from Neti Jetty Bridge will culminate at Frere Hall, whereas the cycle race would run from Frere Hall to Mazar-e-Quaid. Besides, a marathon would be organized from Nishan Pakistan to Do Darya along the Karachi beach.
A variety of sporting events- like cricket, football, boxing, throwball, athletics, badminton, and taekwondo- organized at 97 locations in 30 districts of Sindh will also feature cultural games such as Kabaddi, Malakhara, Vanjh Vati, and Gili Danda. He added that separate events will be organized for special children, ensuring that the celebrations bring joy to every community and that the spirit of Independence Day is celebrated grandly across the province.
Minister for Culture and Tourism Syed Zulfiqar Shah said that trucks and buses should be branded with Independence Day themes, and a specially branded Independence Train should run from Karachi to Thar. He also suggested assigning the responsibility of tree plantation to the union councils, tehsil, and district administrations.
Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab expressed his full readiness to cooperate with every department for the Independence Day celebrations. He stated that Karachi’s parks and other public spaces would be made available for the events and urged all Pakistanis to proudly display the national flag on their homes and vehicles.
Also present were Secretary education Zahid Abbasi, Secretary Information Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, Secretary Auqaf and Zakat Mureed Hussain Rahmoon, Secretary Local Government Dr. Waseem Shamshad Ali, Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Secretary Sports Munawar Ali Mahesar, and Secretary Women Development Abdul Rashid Zardari; while the mayors of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad joined the meeting via video link.
