
PDMA On High Alert Amid Unusual Rains In Rawalpindi

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jul, 2025) The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has been put on high alert following unusual heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi. In a statement issued by Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia on Thursday that all necessary rescue and relief equipment has been preemptively provided to the district administration ahead of the monsoon season.
In light of the emergency, Rescue 1122 has been equipped with 16 OBM boats, 205 life jackets, 31 ambulances, 19 fire brigades, and 4 rescue vehicles. Additionally, PDMA has supplied 28 de-watering sets, 5 sucker machines, 6 jetter machines, and 6 tractors to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA). Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation has 5 de-watering sets, 7 mini trucks, 3 trucks, and 3 generator sets on standby.
DG Kathia emphasized that PDMA Punjab and the district administration are fully prepared to handle any emergency situation. Following the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a rain emergency has been imposed in Rawalpindi, and a local holiday has been declared to ensure public safety.
Residents of low-lying areas near Nullahs (stormwater drains) have been urged to cooperate with authorities in case of evacuation. Announcements in mosques are being made to advise citizens to stay indoors or move to safer locations.
"Citizens must follow administration guidelines and take precautionary measures in the severe weather conditions," DG Kathia added. The administration is on high alert, and emergency response teams are mobilized to assist affected populations if needed.
