Sundas Foundation, IBTS Organize Seminar On Blood Safety, Voluntary Blood Donation

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Jul, 2025) A seminar on “Blood Safety and Voluntary Blood Donation” was held at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), jointly organized by Sundas Foundation and the Institute of Blood Transfusion Services (IBTS), Punjab, here on Saturday.

The event brought together leading experts from across Pakistan in the fields of blood transfusion, pediatric oncology, public health, and voluntary blood donation to promote a culture of safe and timely blood donation in the country. The Primary aim of the seminar was to raise awareness about the importance of safe blood supply, encourage voluntary blood donation, and highlight the use of modern technologies to strengthen blood transfusion services across Pakistan.

Dr. Dur-e-Naz Jamal, Secretary of the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority, attended the seminar as the chief guest. In her address, she stressed the need for inter-provincial coordination to harmonize blood transfusion policies nationwide, ensuring equitable and safe access to blood for all patients.

Dr. Shabnam Bashir, Director of IBTS Punjab, presented a detailed briefing on ongoing blood safety reforms in the province. She also highlighted the implementation of leukodepletion technology, a vital advancement in ensuring the transfusion of cleaner and safer blood components to vulnerable patients.

Founder and President of Sundas Foundation Muhammad Yasin Khan, in his address, emphasized that safe blood donation is not merely a medical necessity but a national responsibility. He stated that the Sundas Foundation is actively promoting voluntary blood donation campaigns across the country and remains committed to ensuring that every patient has access to timely, screened, and safe blood.

The seminar was also addressed by other notable medical experts, including Prof. Dr. Syed Nasir Abbas Bukhari, Head of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Children’s Hospital Lahore; Dr. Uzma Atta, Director, Institute of Blood Transfusion; Dr. Usman Waheed, Dr. Farwah Sajil, and Dr. Rabia, all of whom underlined the critical importance of safe blood availability for patients suffering from thalassemia and other chronic blood disorders.

The event ended with a shield and certificate distribution ceremony, recognizing the contributions of participants and institutions working tirelessly to improve the blood transfusion ecosystem in Pakistan.
