Various food businesses penalised for violations

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2026) Acting on the directives of Director General Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Syed Musa Raza, food safety teams launched inspection operations across Multan division and imposed heavy fines on several food businesses over food safety violations.

According to the PFA spokesperson, inspection teams carried out raids in Multan, Khanewal, Vehari and Lodhran districts, checking papad factories, soda water plants, sweets and bakeries, pickle and jam production units, ice factories and restaurants. During the operations, officials discarded 40 kilograms of fungus-infected pickles, 118 litres of substandard soda water and 15 kilograms of inferior ingredients.

In Multan, a papad manufacturing unit at Ratta Basti on Bahawalpur Road was fined Rs50,000 for drying raw papad on the floor and maintaining insect-infested premises. A fast-food outlet near Chungi No. 22 was fined Rs20,000 over poor cleanliness arrangements in its production area, while a breakfast point near Naz Cinema on Vehari Road received a Rs20,000 fine for storing vegetables, meat and dairy products in contaminated freezers.

The authority also imposed a Rs35,000 fine on a pickle production unit at Daulat Gate Chowk after fungus-infected pickles were recovered during inspection. An ice factory in the Industrial Estate area was fined Rs25,000 for failing to maintain filter replacement records and lacking a water analysis report.

Similarly, a soda water plant in Hassanabad Gate No. 1 was fined Rs50,000 for manufacturing substandard beverages. A food point in Gulgasht Colony was penalised Rs15,000 for using expired bread, improper storage of raw materials and failure to use clean water. Another restaurant at Adda Siddiqabad was fined Rs20,000 over stagnant dirty water in the washing area and the use of uncovered spices.

In Khanewal district, a pizza point at Hussaini Chowk, Kacha Khoh, was fined Rs20,000 for keeping stale and expired food items, while an ice factory on Makhdoom Pur Road was fined Rs15,000 after insects and contaminants were found in ice blocks. A bakery in Mian Channu was penalised Rs20,000 for using rotten eggs, storing unlabeled jam products and failing to install a proper water filtration system.

Meanwhile, a grocery store in Chak 111/15-L was fined Rs10,000 for selling expired confectionery items. In Vehari district, an ice factory in Burewala imposed a Rs25,000 fine for unhygienic conditions and insect-contaminated ice blocks, while a soda water plant in Dhokota, Mailsi, was fined Rs25,000 for producing adulterated beverages.

In Lodhran, two soda water plants located at Double Phatak Basti Tajiwala and Model Bazaar Street were collectively fined Rs37,000 for producing substandard drinks, incomplete labeling and failure to replace water filtration systems.
