Medium To High Flood In River Jhelum Likely In Next 24 Hours

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th july,2016) : Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that medium to high flood in River Chenab and its tributaries (local nullahs), besides, sharp peak of high to very high flood stage in River Jhelum at Mangla (Inflow) is expected during the next 24 hours. According to daily FFC report issued here Wednesday, all main rivers including Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal, except for River Indus which is running in Low Flood at Kalabagh.
The river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs are at elevations of 1515.24 feet and 1230.70 feet respectively, which are 34.76 feet & 11.30 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet.
The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma & Mangla reservoirs is 11.094 MAF as compared to last year’s 12.901 MAF. According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, yesterday's trough of Westerly Wave over Northeastern Iran today lies over Northern parts of Afghanistan.
Seasonal Low still persists over Northern Balochistan. Strong moist current from Arabian Sea is penetrating into upper parts of the country upto 7000 feet. As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, widespread thunderstorm/rain with heavy falls at scattered places and very heavy falls at isolated places is expected over upper catchments of Rivers Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi & Sutlej including North & Northeastern Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala & Lahore Divisions) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the next 24 hours.
Scattered thunderstorm/rain is expected over the upper catchments of River Indus, D.G Khan Division, Northeastern Balochistan and Southeastern Sindh, besides, isolated thunderstorm/ rain over Bahawalpur Division during the same period.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to continue over the upper catchments of all major rivers, North & Northeastern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the next 48 hours i.e. from 28th July to 29th July 2016.
All concerned authorities are advised to remain alert, watch the situation closely and take all necessary precautionary measures in order to avoid loss of human lives and damage to private and public property.
Significant rainfall events as reported by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore during the past 24 hours include; Gujrat=135 mm, Sialkot (Cantt=100 mm & Airport=79 mm), Gujranwala=99 mm, Palandri=94 mm, Kakul=90 mm, Kotli=77 mm, Jhelum & Kamra=69 mm each, Islamabad (Airport & Golra)=69 mm each, Shamsabad=58 mm, Zeropoint=56 mm, Bokra=35 mm & Saidpur=23 mm), Mangla=66 mm, Tarbela=58 mm, Joharabad=54 mm, Sehrkakota=50 mm, Sargodha (Airport=47 mm & City=35 mm), Malamjabba=44 mm, Chakwal=43 mm, Murree=42 mm, Mandibahauddin=40 mm, Palote=32 mm, Phulra=26 mm, Kallar=25 mm, Marala=23 mm, Dratian=22 mm, Risalpur=21 mm, Kohat & Ghariala=20 mm each, Rawalakot, Hattian Bala & Cherat=19 mm each, Pattan=18 mm, Shinkiari=15 mm, Domel=13 mm, D.G Khan (Fort Minro)=12 mm, Kund=11 mm, Peshawar (City & Airport), Chakdara, Dhok Pathan, Tanda Dam & Panjgur=10 mm each.
