ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Mar, 2026) The government has planned to establish a modern Rs 3 billion slaughterhouse and wholesale meat market in Islamabad to ensure safe, hygienic and regulated meat supply to the residents.
According to official documents available with Wealth Pakistan, the project titled “Establishment of State-of-the-Art Slaughterhouse and Wholesale Meat Market, Islamabad” seeks to improve the livestock sector by establishing modern meat-processing facilities, ensuring proper and veterinary-regulated slaughtering practices, and developing a cold-chain system to keep meat fresh during storage and transport.
It also aims to encourage the production of processed and higher-value meat products, helping the sector become more efficient and competitive.
The document states that the initiative aligns with the National Agriculture Innovation and Growth Programme (NAIGP) by introducing cold-chain logistics and ensuring ISO- and Halal-compliant processing to enhance food safety and export readiness.
The three-year initiative, scheduled from July 2026 to June 2029, will be implemented jointly by the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration, the Capital Development Authority and the Livestock & Dairy Development board (LDDB) under the Ministry of National Food Security and Research.
The facility will be established at Islamabad’s Sector I-11/4.
Under the government’s 5Es Framework (Uraan Pakistan 2024-29), the project aims to boost exports by ensuring meat is produced according to quality standards. It will also improve infrastructure by introducing modern processing facilities.
In addition, the project will help protect the environment through proper waste management and emission control, introduce digital tracking systems to monitor meat production and supply, and create better opportunities for traders through greater inclusion and support.
The project aims to centralize slaughtering operations under a single, veterinary-supervised facility to ensure proper health and safety standards. It also seeks to develop an integrated wholesale meat market, wastewater treatment and solid waste management facilities, besides establishing units for processing animal by-products.
The initiative will help improve control of diseases caused by unregulated and informal slaughtering practices. It will also help establish a traceable meat supply chain and generate employment opportunities in processing and logistics.
