ST. PETERSBURG (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st March, 2019) About 2,000 delegates from different countries are expected to take part in the 23rd session of the General Assembly of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which will be held in St. Petersburg in September, the office of city's Vice-Governor Oleg Markov said in a statement on Wednesday.
In September 2017, participants of the plenary meeting of the UNWTO General Assembly in the Chinese city of Chengdu decided that the assembly's 23rd session would be held in 2019 in St. Petersburg.
"As many as 158 ministers of foreign states and up to 2,000 delegates will arrive in St.
Petersburg," the statement says.
The UNWTO assembly has not been hosted by European countries in the past 22 years, it recalled.
The vice-governor, who oversees the preparations for the event, noted the need to ensure the safety and comfort of each guest of the city.
The UNWTO General Assembly will be held on September 9-13 at various venues in St. Petersburg, including the ExpoForum Exhibition Center, the Boris Yeltsin Presidential library, and the Tauride Palace.
