UK Prime Minister Theresa May said on Wednesday that the draft text of the Brexit agreement, which has been finally agreed by London and Brussels, was a significant advance in bringing into life the aspirations of the UK citizens, who voted in the 2016 referendum on exiting the European Union.
On Tuesday, the UK cabinet confirmed that the long-awaited draft Brexit deal had been finally reached by the UK and EU officials.
On Tuesday, the UK cabinet confirmed that the long-awaited draft Brexit deal had been finally reached by the UK and EU officials.
"I am confident that this takes us significantly closer to delivering on what the British people voted for in the referendum. We will take back control of our borders, our laws and our money, leave the Common Fisheries Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy, while protecting jobs, security, and the integrity of our United Kingdom," May said.
She added that later on Wednesday the UK cabinet would meet to consider the negotiated agreement and decide on further steps "in the national interest."
May still needs to convince her ministers and the parliament to go along with her vision of the Brexit deal, despite the outstanding issues in talks with Brussels, notably over the Irish border.
The United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union in a referendum in June 2016 and is expected to do so by late March 2019.
