DONETSK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd October, 2018) As many as four members of militia of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) were killed as a result of two days of shelling by the Ukrainian forces in Donbas, Daniil Bezsonov, the spokesman for the DPR operational command, said on Monday.
"Over the past 24 hours, one member of the DPR people's militia was injured as a result of shelling, he was sent to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries," Bezsonov told reporters, adding that three other militia members were killed in shelling on October 20.
At the same time, the spokesman denied claims made earlier by the Ukrainian forces that a civilian from Kiev-controlled Marinka town in Donetsk had been injured in shelling by militia, stressing that a person was wounded as a result of a brawl between Ukrainian servicemen.
The conflict in Donbas started in 2014, when Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics that refused to recognize the new government in Kiev, which came to power after what they considered to be a coup.
In February 2015, the warring parties signed the Minsk peace accords to end the hostilities in the region, but the situation has remained tense, with both parties accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
