Netanyahu Curtails Visit To France Over Tensions Near Israel-Gaza Strip Border - Office

TEL AVIV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th November, 2018) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided on Monday to cut short his visit to Paris over the escalation of tensions near the Israeli border with the Gaza Strip, the Prime Minister's Office said .
On Sunday, Israel carried out a military operation in the southern Gaza Strip's city of Khan Yunis leaving six Palestinians dead. On early Monday, sirens sounded in the Israeli Eshkol Regional Council with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) having intercepted two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.
"Due to security incidents in the south, the Prime Minister has decided to cut short the trip to Paris and will return to Israel tonight," the Prime Minister's Office wrote on its Twitter page.
Netanyahu visited France to attend festive ceremonies commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. As part of the visit he met several foreign leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
