Poroshenko Discussed Issue of Peacekeepers in Donbas With Macron, Merkel - Press Service

KIEV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th November, 2018) Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Sunday discussed with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel the issue of sending a UN peacekeeping mission to Donbas, the presidential press service said.

"President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with French President Emmanuel Macron and Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel during the working visit to France ... the parties discussed the issue of promoting Ukraine's proposals on the introduction of peacekeepers in the occupied territory of Donbas and the support for Ukraine's position by our partners in the Normandy format - Germany and France," Poroshenko's office said in a statement.

The Ukrainian president has also discussed the exchange of prisoners between Kiev and the Donbas breakaway republics as well as Russia at the trilateral talks, according to the press service.

At the same time, Poroshenko had a brief conversation with US President Donald Trump in Paris.

"In general more than 40 meetings have been held. And yesterday there was a brief conversation with the US president. Following this discussion, today there was a meeting between Foreign Minister [Pavlo] Klimkin and [US] State Secretary [Mike] Pompeo," Poroshenko said at a briefing in Paris, aired by the 5 Kanal broadcaster.

Over 60 heads of state and government gathered in the French capital on Sunday for a military parade and a peace forum organized by Macron marking the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
