MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th March, 2019) The seventh meeting of the Russian-Tunisian intergovernmental commission will take place in Tunisia in late April, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko said on Friday.
"I am confident that the enhanced work within the framework of intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and scientific-technological cooperation will contribute to strengthened business relationships between Russia and Tunisia. We have agreed that another, the seventh, meeting of the intergovernmental commission will take place in late April 2019 in Tunisia," Mutko said at a meeting with Rene Trabelsi, the Tunisian tourism and handicrafts minister.
Mutko added that Russia was ready to sign a number of intergovernmental agreements on transportation, environmental protection and liberalized visa regulations for aircraft crews with Tunisia.
Mutko also noted that in 2018 trade between Russia and Tunisia had grown by 62 percent to $819 million, compared to $511 million in 2017. According to Mutko, Russia is interested in increasing the amount of agricultural products being exported to Tunisia.
During his meeting with Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui in January, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he felt optimistic about the trade dynamics between the two countries. He also mentioned that Tunisia had expressed interest in Russian companies, specifically ones involved in road and railroad construction, participating in the development of the north African country's infrastructure.
