
Over 200,000 Malaria Cases Reported In Sindh During Current Month

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Oct, 2025) The Sindh Health Department has released a comprehensive report revealing that 215,270 cases of malaria have been confirmed across the province during the current month.
According to the report, blood samples from 2,416,427 individuals were screened across the province.
Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho stated that no malaria-related death was reported so far this year, which she termed a positive sign. Only three patients have been hospitalized due to cerebral malaria and have received full treatment, Dr Pechohu added.
The breakdown of malaria cases includes: 181,362 cases of Plasmodium Vivax, 31,319 cases of Plasmodium Falciparum and 2,589 cases of mixed infection.
Dr. Pechuho emphasized that the Sindh government is utilizing all available resources to combat the disease. Daily operations of testing, treatment, and mosquito control spraying are being carried out by health teams throughout the province.
The most affected districts include Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Badin, Thatta, Jacobabad, and Larkana, where intensified preventive efforts are underway.
According to the regional data Hyderabad Division reported the highest number with 101,923 cases, including 7,054 in Hyderabad district, 22,293 in Jamshoro and19,478 in Badin
Larkana Division recorded 52,038 cases, Mirpurkhas Division 19,323 cases, Shaheed Benazirabad 23,439 cases, Sukkur: 17,021 cases and Karachi Division 3,072 cases.
Dr. Pechuho highlighted that special focus is being placed on rural areas, where field teams are distributing mosquito nets, raising awareness, and conducting door-to-door activities.
The Sindh government, with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partner agencies, is executing a comprehensive plan to control malaria, dengue, and other vector-borne diseases.
The public is urged to maintain cleanliness indoors and outdoors, avoid water stagnation, use mosquito nets, and seek medical attention immediately if experiencing fever or chills.
The provincial government remains committed to protecting public health by effectively implementing testing, treatment, and vector control strategies to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the people of Sindh.
