MUZAFFARGARH, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Jul, 2025) In light of the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s forecast of intense monsoon rains, Rescue 1122 Muzaffargarh has initiated a district-wide public awareness campaign through announcements in local mosques to ensure timely information dissemination and preventive safety measures.
Speaking on the occasion, District Emergency Officer Engineer Ubaidullah Khan said that Rescue 1122 teams are actively delivering precautionary messages in all mosques across the district’s tehsils to alert citizens about possible risks associated with heavy rainfall and urban flooding.
The campaign highlights key safety advisories, including:
1. Avoid unnecessary travel during rain; 2. Do not step into accumulated water in low-lying areas; 3. Stay away from electric poles and wires; 4. Do not let water gather near house walls; 5. Ensure timely maintenance of houses; 6. Clean rooftops, drains, and water outlets to prevent accumulation; 7. Seek shelter during rain while traveling and avoid driving through floodwater; 8. Do not drive cars or motorbikes through flowing water; 9. Stay away from power installations; 10.
In case of emergencies, immediately call Rescue 1122 at helpline 1122.
Addressing the potential flood risk, DEO Ubaidullah Khan stated that the rising water levels in the Indus and Chenab rivers indicate a possible flood threat to Muzaffargarh, particularly from the western side along the Indus. In response, Rescue 1122 has finalized its flood emergency preparedness across the district. He added that Emergency Response Teams equipped with flood rescue gear have been deployed in vulnerable low-lying areas and settlements at risk of flash floods. Moreover, private boats and launches operating near riverbanks have been provided life jackets by Rescue 1122 in accordance with the district administration’s directives. Boat operators have also been instructed that no individual should board without a life jacket, in order to avoid major emergencies.
Through the media, the DEO urged residents to fully cooperate with authorities in case a flood warning or emergency evacuation is issued. He advised people to relocate immediately to the nearest flood relief camps to ensure the safety of their lives and property.
