Baku Protests Against Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Leader Visit to Paris- Foreign Ministry

The Azerbaijani Embassy in France sent a note of protest to the French Foreign Ministry over the visit of the leader of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (now the Republic of Artsakh) Bako Sahakyan to Paris, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Leyla Abdullayeva told Sputnik on Saturday.

BAKU (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th November, 2018) The Azerbaijani Embassy in France sent a note of protest to the French Foreign Ministry over the visit of the leader of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (now the Republic of Artsakh) Bako Sahakyan to Paris, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Leyla Abdullayeva told Sputnik on Saturday.

Earlier this week, Sahakyan arrived for an official visit to France having met Armenian Ambassador to France Hasmik Tolmajyan.

"We believe that this French move puts in question [French] objectivity and impartiality.

Taking that into account, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Paris submitted a note of protest to the French Foreign Ministry," Abdullayeva said.

Azerbaijan's Armenian-dominated region of Nagorno-Karabakh proclaimed its independence in 1991, triggering a military conflict that led to Baku's loss of control over the region. The violence between Azerbaijani and Nagorno-Karabakh forces escalated on April 2, 2016, leading to multiple casualties. The sides agreed to a ceasefire on April 5, but sporadic clashes in the area have continued.
