Ukraine tries to portray its sailors detained during the Kerch Strait incident as prisoners of war despite the fact that criminal charges have been brought against them in Russia and the fact that Russia and Ukraine are not in a state of war, Mikhail Shishov, the head of the investigations office of FSB, said on Saturday.
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 08th December, 2018) Ukraine tries to portray its sailors detained during the Kerch Strait incident as prisoners of war despite the fact that criminal charges have been brought against them in Russia and the fact that Russia and Ukraine are not in a state of war, Mikhail Shishov, the head of the investigations office of FSB, said on Saturday.
"Ukraine has recently claimed its servicemen are held as prisoners of war. However, the Ukrainian citizens are accused of a criminal offense, and under the Geneva Convention Relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War of 12 August 1949, they cannot be considered as prisoners of war because Russia and Ukraine are not in a state of a military conflict or war," Shishov said at a briefing at Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency.
