Government Says Will Legislate End To Canada Postal Strike In Days

Ottawa, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Nov, 2018 ) :Canada's government said Tuesday it would legislate an end to a postal strike in a "few days," averting a disastrous holiday season for online retailers that rely on the carrier.
Nearly a year of collective bargaining had produced "limited progress" toward a deal, Employment Minister Patty Hajdu said in a statement posted on Twitter.
"We strongly encourage both sides to reach a deal and are prepared to table legislation if we do not see a resolution over the next few days," she said.
With major Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales events just days away, Ottawa is facing pressure from online retailers to legislate an end to the walkout.
Canada Post delivers much of the nation's online shopping and the last six weeks of the year are its busiest due to the holiday rush.
The rotating strike, now in its fifth week, has resulted in a delivery backlog of up to 30 days, with hundreds of trailers waiting to be unloaded outside sorting facilities.
