Kushner Asked Kislyak for Contacts With Moscow Via Embassy Facilities - Mueller Report

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th April, 2019) The US president's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner in November of 2016 asked then-Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak about using secure facilities of the Russian Embassy for communications with Moscow, the redacted version of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report revealed on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, the US Justice Department published a redacted version of Mueller's report on his investigation into allegations of Trump-Russia collusion and Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.

"Kushner asked Kislyak if they could communicate using secure facilities at the Russian Embassy. Kislyak quickly rejected the idea," the report said.

Kushner reportedly requested a meeting with Kislyak on November 16, 2016, a week after Donald Trump was elected president.

The meeting took place at the Trump Tower on November 30.

Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn also attended the meeting, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, at Kushner's request. During the meeting, Kushner expressed desire from the incoming Trump administration to "start afresh with US-Russia relations," according to the report.

Kushner and Kislyak also discussed US policy toward Syria, with the former Russian ambassador suggesting that a Russian general briefs the Trump Transition team on the subject via a secure communications line, the report revealed.

Kushner had asked about the access to the Russian Embassy to use the secure facilities after Flynn explained that there was no secure line in the Trump Transition offices, the report said.
