TEL AVIV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st March, 2019) Israel is completely free to act against Iran's military presence in Syria and enjoys the full support of its operations from the United States, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday.
Netanyahu called the Iranian threat and relevant countermeasures to be one of the topics of his talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Jerusalem on Wednesday.
"I also appreciate the fact that the United States gives Israel the full backing to defend ourselves against Iranian aggression. We will continue to take action as needed against the attempts of Iran to entrench itself militarily with dangerous weapons in Syria.
There is no limitation to our freedom of action, and we appreciate very much the fact that the United States backs up our actions as we do them," the prime minister said before the meeting with Pompeo.
According to Netanyahu, rolling back Iran is in the interests of security and stability for Israel and its neighbors.
Netanyahu has long been pursuing anti-Iranian policies. Over the recent years, he has been advocating the review of the Iranian nuclear deal with an aim at resuming global pressure on Iran. Israeli forces operate in Syrian airspace to counter the military presence of Iran and its allies there.
