Poland Plans to Launch First Nuclear Power Plant in 2033 - Energy Ministry

WARSAW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd November, 2018) Poland plans to launch its first nuclear power plant in 2033 as part of the low-carbon energy policy, according to a white paper published Friday by the Energy Ministry.

The ministry expects to build a new nuclear reactor every two years, bringing the power plant's total capacity to 6-9 gigawatts.

This will allow the Eastern European country to cut the share of coal in the electricity production from 80 percent to 60 percent in 12 years and further to 30 percent by 2040.

Poland hopes that by 2030 the share of renewable sources in its energy mix will rise to 21 percent. The government does not plan to use windmills and will instead opt for solar power.
