Los Angeles, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Aug, 2018 ) :The Los Angeles Rams spoiled the return of the Raiders franchise to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with a 19-15 victory on Saturday.
The pre-season NFL matchup marked the Raiders first time back at the 95-year-old venue since 1994, when the franchise relocated from Los Angeles to Oakland, California.
Despite the lengthy absence from southern California, the Raiders' still passionate fans showed up in force on Saturday, sporting their silver and black attire.
But they didn't have much to cheer about as new head coach Jon Gruden fielded a largely inexperienced lineup in which quarterback Derek Carr and a host of other regulars didn't play.
Rams running back John Kelly rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown while Carr's fill-in Connor Cook completed just four of seven passes for 17 yards before being replaced.
These two teams meet again in just over three weeks in their season opener in Oakland. The Monday Night Football battle will be their first regular-season contest since 2014.
The Raiders made the Coliseum their home for 13 seasons and it is currently the temporary home of the Rams while their new stadium is being built in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood. It was also the Rams' home from 1946 to 1979.
The Coliseum hosted the Summer Olympics twice in 1932 and 1984. It will be the first to play Summer Olympic host three times when the Games return in 2028.
The 94,000 seat venue was declared an American National Historic Landmark in July 1984, the day before the opening ceremonies for the 1984 Olympics.
