Russia's Eastern Military District To Participate In Joint Drills With Laos Military

KHABAROVSK (Russia) (UrduPoint news / Sputnik - 11th June, 2019) Russia's Eastern Military District (EMD) will participate in joint Russia-Laos tank training drills, which will take place for the first time this year in Laos.

"Military personnel from EMD joined representatives from the defense ministry of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in a conference to discuss the organization and training drills [at the upcoming event]. They have decided to call the event "Laros-2019." ... The training is planned to take place in December in Laos," EMD said in a statement.

The statement also said that the main purpose of the joint training was to expand Russia-Laos bilateral military cooperation, including in their common fight against global terrorism.

It was also noted that Russia will be represented at the drills by tank operators from the Transbaikal unit of the Eastern Military District and logistics specialists.

EMD is one of the five military districts of the Russian Armed Forces. Its jurisdiction lies within the Far Eastern Federal District of the country.
