WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st December, 2018) Senate Republicans are set to meet with US President Donald Trump on Friday to discuss the funding bill to prevent a partial government shutdown and border security, White House Spokesperson Sarah Sanders said in a statement.
"President Trump will meet with Senate Republicans this morning at 10:30am [3:00 p.m. GMT] to discuss the Funding Bill and the importance of Border Security," Sanders said in a Twitter message on Friday.
The Senate is expected to vote later on Friday on a continuing resolution that keeps funding at current levels until February 8, and adds $5 billion that Trump wants for a border wall.
If the Senate does not pass this legislation by midnight, nine government agencies will shut down, including the Department of Homeland Security, Treasury Department and State Department.
On Wednesday, the US Senate passed the continuing resolution, but then on Thursday the House of Representatives passed the continuing resolution with an amendment that added the border wall funding.
Most Democrats in the Senate, along with some Republicans are opposed to adding the funding for Trump's border wall.
