Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday that the United States failed to honor its commitments regarding migration from Afghanistan
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2021) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday that the United States failed to honor its commitments regarding migration from Afghanistan.
ENG "Right now, the United States failed to meet its obligations. We have more than 300,000 Afghan refugees and we will no longer be able to afford to welcome any more Afghan refugees in Turkey," Erdogan told a CBS presenter when asked if receiving Afghan refugees is an obligation of the US.
The Turkish leader added that the US was obliged to do and invest a lot, as it had been present in Afghanistan for two decades.
The Taliban (banned in Russia as a terrorist organization) entered Kabul in mid-August, declaring that the war was over. On August 31, US troops left the Kabul airport, which ended the two-decade military presence of Washington in Afghanistan. In early September, the last province resisting the militants, Panjshir, surrendered. The next day, the Taliban declared an interim government with Mohammad Hasan Akhund at helm, who served as a foreign minister during the first Taliban rule.
