US Declares New Nuclear Command, Control Center In Nebraska Operational - STRATCOM

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 04th April, 2019) The new Nuclear Command, Control and Communications Enterprise Center in the US state of Nebraska has been declared operational, the Strategic Command announced in a news release.

"US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) officials formally declared initial operational capability (IOC) of the Nuclear Command, Control and Communications Enterprise Center (NEC) April 3, 2019," the release from Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska said on Wednesday.

The Strategic Command said the NEC acts as the heart of the nuclear command, control and communications enterprise, which has the Primary goal of focusing on restructuring situation monitoring, decision-making, force direction, force management and planning.

The Strategic Command also said they are laying the ground floor to develop the nuclear command, control and communications "architecture of the future that will serve the nation for decades to come," STRATCOM Deputy Commander Vice Adm.

David Kriete said in the release.

In 2018, Secretary of Defense James Mattis appointed the Strategic Command head to be the single operational commander for nuclear command, control and communications with increased responsibilities for operations, requirements and systems engineering and integration, the release noted.

The Strategic Command has global responsibilities, including strategic deterrence, nuclear operations, space operations, joint electromagnetic spectrum operations, global strike, missile defense and analysis and targeting, according to the release.
