Zimbabwe will take part in the Russia-Africa summit this October and is looking forward to the event, Zimbabwean Minister of Defense Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri told Sputnik on Thursday
The summit will be held in the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi.
"We will be participating [in Russia-Africa summit], we are quite excited," the minister said.
Muchinguri-Kashiri added that her country and Russia enjoyed "some serious and cordial relationship."
The minister said that Zimbabwe was looking into boosting its air power and ground power, training its soldiers, adding that "friendly countries" were welcome to contribute to these projects.
"Russia and countries like China, they are friendly countries to us by their contribution and also by their support during the armed struggle. So we have continued strengthening and building that relationship that we started during this struggle. So obviously as mutual friends we go beyond just economic [cooperation] because we do have a very strong relationship with Russia, we have Russian companies in Zimbabwe," the minister said.
Muchinguri-Kashiri has traveled to Moscow for the Conference on International Security.
