PTI secures 6 Senate seats in KP; Murad Saeed elected senator

Unofficial and unconfirmed results show that PTI clinched four of seven general seats while opposition secured remaining three

PESHAWAR: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 21st, 2025) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secured a majority in the Senate elections held in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, winning six out of eleven seats, including the successful election of senior party leader Murad Saeed as senator.

The unofficial and unconfirmed results showed that PTI clinched four of the seven general seats, while the opposition secured the remaining three. Murad Saeed surprised many by securing 26 votes, exceeding expectations.

Other PTI candidates elected on general seats include Mirza Afridi (22 votes), Faisal Javed (21 votes), and Noor-ul-Haq Qadri (21 votes).

From the opposition, Maulana Atta-ul-Haq Dervish and Niaz Ahmad each received 18 votes, while Talha Mehmood secured 17 votes to win their respective general seats.

On technocrat seats, PTI's Azam Swati garnered 89 votes, while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)'s Dilawar received 54 votes, earning them both victory.

For the two seats reserved for women, PTI's Rubina Naz won with 89 votes, and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)'s Rubina Khalid was elected with 52 votes. Two votes were rejected during the count on these seats.

As per the Election Commission's records, 25 candidates contested the elections—16 on seven general seats, five on two technocrat seats and four candidates on two women’s reserved seats.

The polling was held smoothly in the provincial assembly.
