MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2019) Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan agreed on Tuesday to work closely on the common goal of ridding North Korea of nuclear weapons, a Japanese Foreign Ministry press secretary said after the leaders met in Moscow.
"They had a frank exchange of views on the situation on the Korean peninsula, and they confirmed [their determination] to closely cooperate, collaborate for the common goal of Russia and Japan of denuclearization of the Korean peninsula," Takeshi Osuga told reporters at a briefing.
The Korean nuclear stockpile will be the main focus of a summit next month between North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he expected that more progress would be made along the way toward achieving the full denuclearization.
