NEW DELHI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th January, 2019) Mohammad Omar Daudzai, the head of the Afghan High Peace Council's Secretariat, has arrived to the Chinese capital of Beijing to discuss the Afghan peace process with the Chinese leadership, a source in the council told Sputnik on Thursday.
"Mohammad Omar Daudzai, the secretary of the High Peace Council and the president's representative for reconciliation, has arrived in Beijing. As part of the official program of the visit, he will meet with the country's leadership. Moreover, he will deliver a speech in the University of International Relations about the dynamics of the Afghan peace process and the importance of regional consensus on peace in the country. He will also answer the questions of Chinese analysts and researchers," the source said.
Afghanistan has long been in a state of turmoil, with the government fighting the Taliban radical movement.
On November 6, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani announced that a new advisory body for talks with the Taliban movement will be created the consultative board for peace process. Daudzai, an experienced Afghan politician, is set to join the board.
On November 9, the most recent round of Moscow-format talks on Afghanistan, launched in April 2017, was held in the Russian capital. The negotiations were marked by a closed-door meeting between the High Peace Council and the political office of the Taliban movement in Doha, which took part in this kind of meeting for the first time.
