At least 26 insurgents have been killed by Afghan security forces in the county's western provinces, the Afghan Defense Ministry said on Thursday
"Shindand [city], Herat [province], 24 insurgents killed. Farah [city, Farah province], 2 insurgents killed," the ministry tweeted.
Also security forces seized two rocket-propelled grenades (RPG), a mortar, two AK-47 rifles and one Motorola radio, the statement continued. Two Afghan National Army soldiers were killed and two more suffered minor injuries during the operations, the ministry added.
Earlier on Thursday, Afghan Khaama press news agency reported that dozens of Taliban militants, including local commanders and leaders, were killed during operations across several provinces. The army confiscated 50 kilograms (110 Pounds) of methamphetamine, 2 kilograms of heroin and 30 kilograms of some morphine-based substance, the agency added.
Conflict-struck Afghanistan has been long torn by fighting between government troops and Taliban militants, groups affiliated with al Qaeda (terrorist group banned in Russia) and other insurgents.
