MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th August, 2018) At least 45 Afghan security personnel were killed in a Taliban attack on a military base in Afghanistan's norther province of Baghlan, media reported on Wednesday, citing a security source.
Among those killed there were 35 army servicemen and 10 local police officers, according to TOLO news.
The attack was also confirmed by local police, however, no other details were provided.
This has been the second Taliban attack on military bases in Afghanistan since the start of the week. On Monday, reports emerged that Taliban militants had captured a military base in Afghanistan's northern province of Faryab, killing at least 17 servicemen, while dozens of others reportedly surrendered to the insurgents.
Afghanistan has long been destabilized by the conflict between the Taliban movement and the Afghan government. The violence is exacerbated by the activities of various terrorist groups.
