MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2018) As many as eight Syrian servicemen have been wounded in a shelling attack in the country's province of Latakia carried out by militants, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Friday.
"Eight Syrian servicemen were wounded as a result of attack against Qalaat Marza, Latakia province. In this region, a drone launched by insurgents was shot down over the positions of the government forces," the statement said.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, despite the ceasefire regime being established throughout Syria, the truce is still being violated by militants in Idlib de-escalation zone.
"Over the past day, insurgents have attacked Nahshabba, Qalaat Marza (twice), Arafit, Jubb al-Zaur, Kinsabba and Akch-Baer, Latakia province, districts of Handrat, al-Wasita, Jubb-al-Hamir, Maqanis-al-Duwayri, a research centre (twice) in Aleppo city, Masana, Hama province, Tadef (twice), Aleppo province from positions of Turkish-backed formations near al-Bab town," the statement added.
Over the past 24 hours the servicemen of the Russian center for Syrian reconciliation carried out a humanitarian action in the province of Damascus, delivering 1,000 school backpacks and 1,000 sets of clothing to local children. In addition, the residents of the city of Aleppo received one tonne of fresh-baked bread.
Russia, along with Turkey and Iran, is one of the guarantors of the ceasefire in Syria. Moscow has also been supporting the government forces' fight against terrorist groups, threatening the security situation in Syria, and providing humanitarian aid to civilians.
