EU Delegation To Russia Expresses Condolences On Russian Rights Activist Alexeyeva's Death

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 09th December, 2018) The EU Delegation to Russia said it mourned the passing of Lyudmila Alexeyeva, a prominent Soviet and Russian rights activist, and expressed its condolences to her relatives and fellow members in human rights movement.
On Saturday, the Russian Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights said that Alexeyeva had died at the age of 91 in Moscow.
"We pay tribute to Lyudmila #Alexeeva by reaffirming our unwavering commitment to the universal values of human rights, to which she dedicated her extraordinary life.
We express our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and colleagues of the Moscow-Helsinki Group," the delegation said.
The EU delegation added that Alexeyeva's courage and vision would continue to inspire human rights activists.
Alexeyeva was a prominent Soviet dissident and one of the founding members of the Moscow Helsinki Group, which was aimed at monitoring the Soviet Union's compliance with the Helsinki Accords. �
