France, Germany Agree To Launch Study Works To Jointly Design Advanced Warplane - Minister

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st November, 2018) French Defense Minister Florence Parly announced on Tuesday that Paris and Berlin had agreed to launch preparatory works to jointly design a warplane of the next generation.

"In June, France and Germany decided to design jointly a combat aircraft of the future.

Today marks a critical juncture, with an agreement to proceed with the examination of the structure, concept and the launch of a prototype (aircraft and engine) starting on today and by mid-2019 [having been reached]," Parly wrote on her Twitter blog.

In June 2018, the French Defense Ministry announced that the work to design the aircraft would begin later in the year with a study phase. According to media reports, the fighters are expected to go into service by 2040.
