French lawmaker and head of National Rally (RN) party, Marine Le Pen, on Thursday expressed her concern over the court decision ordering her psychiatric evaluation in connection to her tweets denouncing the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia).
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2018) French lawmaker and head of National Rally (RN) party, Marine Le Pen, on Thursday expressed her concern over the court decision ordering her psychiatric evaluation in connection to her tweets denouncing the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia).
Earlier this year, Le Pen was placed under formal investigation over the 2015 tweets, which included depictions of IS carrying out executions.
"For having denounced the horrors of Daesh [another name for IS] in tweets, the 'justice' is subjecting me to a psychiatric evaluation! Just how far will they go?" Le Pen said on Twitter.
The French politician added a scan of a court decision ordering the expertise, commenting that the "regime is beginning to be REALLY scary."
Le Pen noted that, contrary to French media reports, the procedure was not customary.
In November last year, the French National Assembly, of which Le Pen is a member, stripped her of immunity so that the prosecutors could open a case against her over the tweets. If found guilty, Le Pen might face up to three years in prison and a fine of 75,000 Euros (about $88,250).
