The makers of upcoming multilingual biopic Thalaivibased on the life of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaahave announced that they have roped in actor Kangana Ranaut has been roped in to play the lead.

The announcement was made on the occasion of Kangana's 32nd birthday on Saturday.

Last seen playing Rani Lakshmi Bai in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, Kangana will begin shooting for Thalaivi from April.

The project was announced on February 25, the 71st birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa. The film's title and first look poster were also revealed.The film will be directed by Vijay and will be shot and release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The project is being bankrolled by Vishnu Induri.
