Magnitude 4.5 Quake Hits Waters Near Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula - Geophysical Survey

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY (Russia) (UrduPoint news / Sputnik - 21st September, 2018) KAMCHATSKY (Russia), September 21 (Sputnik) - A magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean near the Russian Far East Kamchatka Peninsula in the early hours of Friday, the local branch of the Geophysical Survey of the Russian academy of Sciences (GS RAS) told Sputnik.

"A seismic event took place on Friday morning local time. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Pacific Ocean waters near the Shipunskiy peninsula at the depth of over 40 kilometers [24.8 miles] 132 kilometers to the southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky," the GS RAS spokesperson said.

According to the data of the regional branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, the tremors were not felt in local settlements.
