Magnitude 5.9 Aftershock Strikes Off New Caledonia Coast After Magnitude 7.6 Quake - USGS

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 05th December, 2018) A magnitude 5.9 aftershock was registered near the coast of New Caledonia, a French overseas territory, after a powerful earthquake, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said on Wednesday.

The tremors were registered at 04:30 GMT, 122 kilometers (75.

8 miles) southeast of the town of Tadine. The epicenter was located at the depth of 10 kilometers.

Earlier in the day, the USGS reported that a magnitude 7.6 earthquake was registered near the coast of New Caledonia. The quake occurred at 04:18 GMT, 153 kilometers southeast of Tadine, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
