Mexican President Discussed Trade, Migration With Trump's Adviser Kushner - Administration

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador held a meeting with Jared Kushner, a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump, to discuss migration and the US-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement, Obrador's administration said on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th March, 2019) Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador held a meeting with Jared Kushner, a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump, to discuss migration and the US-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement, Obrador's administration said on Wednesday.

The talks focused on the state of Mexican-US relations during Obrador's first 100 days in office.

"At the meeting, held in Mexico City, the sides discussed matters of mutual interest, including USMCA ratification, cooperation for the sake of development and regional migration matters. The meeting was held in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation," the presidential administration said in a statement.

The meeting was held at Mexico's initiative, according to Obrador's administration. Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard and US Charge d'Affaires in Mexico John Creamer were also present.

Earlier this week, the Mexican Foreign Ministry endorsed the candidacy of Christopher Landau as US ambassador to Mexico. Landau replaced former US Ambassador Roberta Jacobson, who left Mexico last spring as tensions escalated between the two countries over Washington's intention to build a border wall in order to prevent an influx of illegal migrants attempting to reach the United States through Mexico.
