Minsk Slams G7 Statement On Elections As Pressure On Sovereign Will

MINSK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 06th May, 2021) Belarus will decide on its own the timing and format of its elections, Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Anatoly Glaz told Sputnik on Thursday, commenting on the joint statement of G7 foreign ministers after the summit in London.
Among other things, the statement urged Minsk to release political prisoners and hold new elections.
"We are a sovereign country, that is why we will decide ourselves when and what kind of electoral campaigns to hold in our country," Glaz said.
The official described the statement's section on Belarus as a "standard set of worn-out cliches."
"Such mantras roam from platform to platform essentially without change, showing, unfortunately, a deep lack of understanding and unwillingness of their authors to understand the situation in our country," Glaz explained.
