Mozambique has directed a note to the government of Russia, asking Moscow for support in the wake of Cyclone Idai, Mario Saraiva Ngwenya, the ambassador of Mozambique to Russia told Sputnik on Tuesday
"Today we sent an official note to the government of Russia, requesting humanitarian assistance as a result of this cyclone happening in Mozambique, particularly in Beira, Chimoio, Zambesi province and Tete.
So we do believe that from Russia's side we will have a response on that," Ngwenya said.
"[We need] Everything food, clothes, material for construction because many of the houses and buildings have been destroyed; communication has been destroyed. We need all those kinds of support and in particular equipment to rescue the people who are still underwater because it is still raining in the region," Ngwenya said, when asked what kind of humanitarian aid Mozambique sought from Russia.
