BAKU (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th March, 2019) Only Oman, an original member of the OPEC-non-OPEC Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee (JMMC), volunteered to leave the JMMC so that new members could join it, while other countries will retain their membership, Saudi Energy Minister Khalid Falih said on Monday.
Earlier in the day, OPEC said in a press release that Iraq, Kazakhstan, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were welcomed as new members of the JMMC.
"In December, Oman volunteered to nominate one other member of the non-OPEC group [to join the JMMC], which was Kazakhstan, and it graciously accepted to join, and we welcomed Kazakhstan today and we miss Oman .
.. other members have elected to stay and we welcome their contributions either as members or attendees of the JMMC," Falih said at a press conference when asked about the original members of the JMMC leaving to have new members come in.
The statement comes after the 13th meeting of the JMMC, which took place in Baku.
