Over 25,000 Syrians Returned to Damascus From Lebanon Over 4 Months - Governor

Over 25,000 Syrians, who were forced to leave their homes in Syria's Damascus province due to the civil war and flee to Lebanon, have returned home in the past four months, Damascus Provincial Governor Alaa Ibrahim said on Monday.

JDAIDIT YABWS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 13th August, 2018) Over 25,000 Syrians, who were forced to leave their homes in Syria's Damascus province due to the civil war and flee to Lebanon, have returned home in the past four months, Damascus Provincial Governor Alaa Ibrahim said on Monday.

"Over 25,000 refugees have returned from Lebanon over the past four months," he said.

According to him, there was an upsurge in the number of people returning home after the victory over terrorists was declared.

"People are currently actively arriving in Syria, and we, as the executive government, do everything so that they could return to their homes," Ibrahim added.

He also said that the refugees were provided medical and psychological assistance at the checkpoints, and also given food, water and articles of daily necessity. After that they go home, and if their houses are destroyed, the authorities offer them a temporary location.

Over 220 people have returned to Syria from Lebanon on Monday. They have come in four buses followed by trucks carrying their belongings. Not only Syrian authorities, but employees of the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Refugee Reception, Distribution and Settlement welcomed them.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Refugee Reception, Distribution and Settlement said that over 6,600 Syrian refugees have returned home from Lebanon since July 18.

Russia assists Syria, where the government has been fighting against numerous opposition and terrorist groups since 2011, by providing humanitarian aid and being one of the guarantors of the ceasefire regime. In late July, Russia announced the creation of a refugee center in Syria set to receive, relocate and accommodate civilians returning home.
