Poland To Purchase 20 US Rocket Launchers With Range Up To 186 Miles - Defense Minister

WARSAW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th February, 2019) Poland will purchase from the United States 20 rocket launchers that have an up to 300-kilometer (186-mile) range, Polish Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak said on Sunday.

"We will sign an agreement with the US government for deliveries of a battalion of HIMARS [High Mobility Artillery Rocket System] on Wednesday," Blaszczak said, while attending the 1st Tadeusz Kosciuszko Infantry Division headquarters in the Polish capital of Warsaw.

He specified that Poland would pay $414 million for the battalion that includes 20 launchers and necessary equipment.

HIMARS, developed in 1996, is able to carry guided rockets that have ranges up to 300 kilometers. The launch systems are mounted on a medium tactical vehicle. HIMARS is used as a launch platform for GMLRS and ATACMS munitions. A range of NATO countries have HIMARS in their service.
