Polish farmers poured apples out on the roads in Warsaw and set tires on fire, protesting against low purchase prices for products they produce, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the scene on Wednesday
Several dozen representatives of the AGROunia organization, which unites agricultural workers, gathered at Artur Zawisza Square near the city's central train station.
They are protesting low purchase prices for fruits, vegetables and meat.
Farmers scattered apples on the roads, making it impossible for vehicles to travel down the street, and the police blocked traffic.
The protesters also set car tires on fire, which firemen then quickly extinguished, and placed a pig carcass on the tram tracks, halting tram traffic for some time.
According to the police, the farmers' protest is illegal, since it was not coordinated with the city's authorities.
